Social media is a great way to get sales organically into your business. People follow you, they like know and trust you because you’re showing bits of your personality and your life outside of business, so then they’re willing to buy into your business.
If you’re new here, I’m Tonya Johnson. I’ve been working full time from social media since 2016 while juggling all things marriage, motherhood, and money. This channel is for all the moms out their wearing all the hats and truly living that #bossmom life.
Here are 4 things you NEED to be doing if you want to get organic sales from social media. Before I start, I want to remind you that following the FRESH formula is a great way to showcase your products and services on social media without turning people off. FRESH stands for funny, responsive, emotional, sales, and helpful. Basically it’s a how-to guide of posting on social media to up your engagement, gain more followers, and sell your products. Ok, so I’m gonna share these four tips with you and then also share two things that will absolutely KILL your social media business. First, the four tips:
1. Use the Product
Stop selling your products, and start showing yourself and your family using the products. If you’re in health and wellness, I’m not talking about showing before and afters, I’m talking about actually using the products. Where are all my it work girlies? I have several clients in it works, and y’all do a great job showing yourself making your coffee every morning while sharing about your day. If you sell yourself as a social media coach, show yourself planning and prepping your content using the planner that YOU created, or at the very least walk your followers through the social media strategy you set up for your own page and how it’s benefiting your engagement and overall sales. I’m in the middle of finishing a road trip activity pack for kids. We’re heading to Washington D.C. here soon on a little mini vacation, and you better believe I’ll be showing how we’re using the road trip package for both fun and organizational reasons. People like to know that you’re using the products you’re selling.
2. UGC content talking points
Put as much effort into your own content as you would if a brand paid you to do it. By the way, do that long enough and brands will pay you to make their content, I’m proof of that. If you don’t know, UGC stands for user generated content. It’s just content made my people using the products instead of ad style content made by the companies. Put a little bit of time in to learning how to make attractive posts, shoot ad style videos, etc. Put some pride and creativity into your sales posts and reels vs just putting up a graphic saying buy my product for this much money.
3. Story Sharing
This is where you get to share you and your clients/customers testimonials. We talked last week about how to craft an amazing testimonial. If you missed that I’d recommend grabbing the link from the show notes. The ability to put together really strong testimonials will attract an extra handful of customers each month that otherwise probably wouldn’t buy from you.
4. Sales Posts
Yes, there is a time where you blatantly put together a sales post with a strong call to action. What I’ve put together for you guys this week as my freebie is a list of 25 social media posts designed to sell any product. These are ones that I’ve either used personally, or put together for clients, so I can vouch first hand that they work!
WARNING
Now that I’ve given you four tip to selling any product on social media, I want to give you two things that will absolutely KILL your business, even if you’re also doing the 4 things above.
1. Posting "buy my product" or "join my business" posts.
This is very spammy and not only kills your engagement, but turns people off from buying your products and services; the exact opposite of what you’re trying to do. I saw a post last week talking about how this chic felt like Facebook was hiding her posts because she wasn’t getting any engagement anymore. I did what I always do when I see posts like that: I went to her page to see if I could spot the culprit. It usually takes me all of 5 min to do this. Sure enough, her page was filled with spammy posts about buying her happy juice and joining her matrix for $20. I scrolled back an entire month, not one value based post on her page in 30 days. Most of her stuff is getting 2-3 likes on it from people already on her team. If your engagement is down, I can tell you 99.9% of the time, it’s not Facebook’s fault. Btw, here’s a free bonus “not to do” for you. If you’re working for an mlm company or a network marketing company, or whatever you want to call it, do not post the name of your company anywhere on your page. The MLM industry is heavily saturated right now, meaning your audience probably knows multiple people selling the same product you are. If you’re a walking billboard for your company, you probably won’t be the one to get the sale. You’re just giving free advertisement at that point.
2. Sending them directly to a sales page
People are on social media to numb their minds and entertain themselves. It wasn’t always like that, but that’s how it is now. Asking them to take a major action step with you usually isn’t going to result in anything. I can tell you personally that I’ve wanted to buy something while I’m laying in bed scrolling, but then when I click the link and realize I need my debit card, I back out. 9 times out of 10 I don’t go back. Instead of sending them to a sales page, send them to a lead magnet that captures their email. People scrolling on social media probably won’t take a major action step with you the first time they come across your posts, but they more than likely will take a micro action step and enter in their email to download your freebie IF the quality is there. If you don’t know how to create eye catching lead magnets packed out with value, I’d recommend d grabbing my creator course where I walk you through exactly how to create lead magnets that people actually want.
